Nations
worldwide and several states of the U.S.
have passed resolutions recognizing the
Armenian Genocide. In light of the Turkish
government’s consistent campaign of denial,
official recognition of the Armenian
Genocide, especially by Western powers, is a
critical step that sends a clear message to
the Turkish government that it must come to
terms with its past.
Clearly, avoiding the facts of the Genocide
or succumbing to Turkish threats and
propagating its lies not only prolongs the
resolution of this very important human
rights issue, but also sets a dangerous
precedent for future governments or leaders
contemplating genocide. Let us never
forget, Adolf Hitler himself justified how
he could get away with his plans for the
Jews and other "undesirables" of Europe by
stating
"Who, after
all, speaks today of the annihilation of the
Armenians?"
